Prawn Pulao, learn how to make this simple and tasty prawn pulao using easy steps. Serve shrimp pulao with raita, veg or spicy non veg gravy.

Shrimp Pulao Recipe

Prawn pulao is not spicy yet flavourful main course dish. Serve this with any spicy veg or non veg gravy. Use the same preparation method to prepare pulao with chicken/mutton/egg/paneer/mushroom/gobi. I have used clay pot to prepare this flavourful pulao. You can also use pressure cooker to do the same. Mint and coriander leaves are not necessarily required to prepare this dish. They are optional ingredients.

Use basmati rice or seeraga samba rice. You can cook pulao on dum to get separate rice grains. Use small or medium sized prawns for pulao. Kids would surely love this lightly spiced pulao. This makes a great dish for potluck party or pack for kids lunch box. I have used cold pressed groundnut oil for tempering. Replace with ghee/coconut oil according to your preference.

Learn how to make simple and tasty prawn pulao at home

Ingredients

  • 250 gms Prawn - Cleaned
  • 2 Medium Sized Onions
  • 1 Medium Sized Tomato
  • 1 tbsp Ginger Garlic Paste
  • 1/2 tsp Turmeric Powder
  • 1 tsp Garam Masala
  • 1 tsp Coriander Powder
  • Salt to taste
  • 2 tbsp Groundnut Oil
  • 1/4 cup Mint Leaves
  • 1/4 cup Chopped Coriander Leaves
  • 1/2 tsp Red Chili Powder
  • 1 Star Anise
  • 4 Cloves
  • 1/2 Cinnamon Stick
  • 3 cup Seeraga Samba Rice - soaked in water for 10 mins

Instructions

  • Heat oil in a handi or clay pot. Add cloves, cinnamon, and star anise. Saute a while and add chopped onions. Fry till it turns golden brown and add ginger-garlic paste. Add mint leaves, coriander leaves and saute a while.
  • Add chopped tomatoes, prawns, turmeric powder, red chili powder, coriander powder, garam masala and little salt. Cook it covered for 5-8 mins on low flame.
  • Add 6 cup water and allow it to boil. Add washed rice and salt to taste. Cook it covered on low medium flame for 15-20 mins. Garnish with coriander leaves and serve hot with veg or non veg gravy.
